For Children ONLY Oct 15, 2007
By Thomas Paterson I really like the idea of learning language interactively via software. It must be a tremendously difficult task to create such software. This software states on its cover "essential words and phrases for absolute beginners".
Yes this is for absolute beginners, but pitched at children. Many of the words are actually english words with koreanisation, ported straight across from our language, eg "son-ge-lasses" for sunglasses. You are paying money for this. Whilst humorous, this is an unintended consequence and not a lesson in genuine Korean.
I finished this in a few hours.
It is at best a novelty item if you are an adult. There is no hangul or explanation of grammar. A no brainer. A nice way to idle away a few hours. Even the speakers are white! Miming genuine korean speakers! What a joke!
In Australia this cost me over $70. So, from this point of view it is a great disappointment, so 2 stars and if I could give 1.5 stars this would be my verdict.
As we reach parity with the US dollar (buy gold!) it will deserve one half more star, but only as something you buy from the postoffice shelf as you wait in a long queue...for $20 dollars AUD.
For the childrens' Christmas stocking only.
