If you already speak Spanish and are trying to learn Portuguese, then I would NOT recommend this software to you. This is way too basic for me (fluent in Spanish). I gave it five stars, however, because it seems this would be great for anyone who has zero knowledge of the language. It's very basic but the material is presented very well.

I have a near native command of Spanish and am trying to teach myself another language. I am going mainly for Portuguese, for family reasons. Spanish and Portuguese are sister languages and that helps me with the meaning of some words, but even when I understand the meaning I still need a lot of help on how to pronounce the Portuguese words and then on how to put them together and communicate. This help I have found here in a lively and enjoyable manner. This is excellent for beginners like me and I guess also for someone coming back to the language after a break.

I bought this to prepare for a trip to Portugal. It is so much fun that I bought it in German for my grandsons (6 and 7) to prepare for a trip to Austria. The games are really cute and engaging; for example, the easy game on "parts of the body" is hosted by two talking cartoon skeletons, and every time the user answers correctly, a part of the body is added to a cartoon Frankenstein like creature which, when complete, gets up and gives an eerie laugh. The advanced games are even fun for adults. The program keeps track of the points earned by multiple users so that bronze, silver and gold "awards" can be printed out with their names once threshold point levels are reached. I have recommended it to numerous colleagues, relatives and friends for themselves and their children. It's great for anyone who just wants to know some useful words and phrases--it would also be good for a child preparing to take a foreign language for the first time in school, giving him or her a real comfort level with the spellings, pronunciation etc. of many words. NOTE: While I highly recommend "Talk Now!" I was very disappointed with the "Talk MORE" program from the same company.

Expected this item to be in good condition and that is how it was when I received it so I am happy with this purchase. My only complaint is that I couldn't get the audio files on my iPod. But I contacted customer support and the next day was emailed all the audio files and was able to import them into iTunes successfully.
